deepspacegallery is delighted to bring you, ‘Kings, Knights & Maidens’, an exhibition depicting scenes from the times of King Arthur with a recital of the artist’s own retelling of one of the greatest love stories of all, ‘The Rhyme of Tristan & the Fair Iseult’.
‘Kings, Knights and Maidens’
features original paintings and charts plus printed posters, pamphlets and cards by the artist, Ian Forrester Roberts, who has focused much throughout his working life as an artist, on the Arthurian Legends that have proved such fertile soil for the growth of idealistic symbolism. Like many of the poets, artists and troubadours of old, Forrester Roberts has continued to illustrate with imagery and words, these stories that reflect so many facets of the human condition.
Forrester Roberts is an artist with a love of poetry and tale telling who lives near Cheltenham.
‘Kings, Knights & Maidens’ is open from Tuesday to Fridays from 10am until 4pm – 31st March until 3rd April & 7th – 10th April.

The recital of ‘The Rhyme of Tristan & the Fair Iseult’ takes place in the gallery at 7pm on Friday 3rd April, at which, Ian Forrester Roberts, accompanied by Sylvia Charlewood, tell the full version.
Tickets are £4.50 with wine or soft drinks & nibbles included.
“The stories of Tristan and Yseult originate in early Celtic legend.
Although several versions exist, the most memorable is undoubtedly Gottfried von Strassburg’s long and very beautiful poem, ‘Tristan’ composed in 1210 AD. Written in German, in the rhyming couplets of the day it describes a number of incidents, not included in my simple narrative.
The aim of this work is merely to put the essence of the story back into some semblance of a verse form acceptable to a modern audience.”
