Indy Cantillon
Artist Statement
‘I am attempting something great within a restrictive framework – ‘the head in a frame’ format – combining technical realism and visual excitement with an attempt to understand the sitter, the artist and the viewer. I want the realism to draw you in before you grasp the weight, the history, the human condition, as surface, perfectionism, people breakdown. Hope may lie in the breakdown, in the edges, in the extremes, heading somewhere photographic realism alone cannot take you.’

Working as a portrait artist from my studio here at deepspaceworks I paint highly realistic portraits where things break down: surfaces; brush strokes; perfectionism; emotion.
It is essential that I meet the subject(s) to get a sense of the person(s). This enables me to create a study of sensitivity and fragility. I will then take photographs and base my work primarily from them.
I can create anything from ‘head’ to ‘full’ portraits and the studies will be life-size. Your portrait will be created using oil on board. Prices begin at £500 based on a ‘head’ portrait of 59cm x 42cm.
To discuss your commission please pop in to deepspaceworks and ask for my studio.
