deepspacegallery is one of ten venues worldwide to be hosting the current series of ‘Bookmarks’, which originated to encourage people to appreciate artwork in the format of bookmarks and to visit artist’s book venues and libraries. The project was launched with ‘Bookmarks I’ in 2004 by CFPR (Centre for Fine Print Research) UWE, (University of West of England) in Bristol.

Bookmarks

38 artists from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Hawaii, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, the UK, and the USA, have each produced an edition of 100 signed and numbered bookmarks to give away through distribution boxes at venues like deepspacegallery around the world.

As part of the project deepspacegallery has receivedbookmarks box several bundles of bookmarks to give away to our visitors between now and the end of February 2016! So please do come in and choose a bookmark to keep and find out more about the artists’ books on display in the artistbookarts collection held at deepspaceworks.

the artistbookarts collection handling sessions

For the 5 month duration of Bookmarks XIII there will be several opportunities to handle a variety of artists’ books from the artistbookarts collection, accompanied with information on artists’ books by curator, Su Billington, from deepspaceworks.

The Friday artist’s books handling sessions kick off on 30th October when you can drop-in anytime between 10am and 3pm to enjoy our collection. Refreshments are provided and a small charge of £2 per person made towards running our fabulously vibrant, friendly and totally non-funded community art centre.
