deepspaceworks is now permanently closed as of 30th March 2024.
Thank you to everyone who has been involved over the last two decades.
This website remains simply as an archive of some of the things we got up to.

"100" - Community Horse Number 9 reverse

On 7th July a 7 foot high moulded fibreglass horse based on a maquette made by local artist P.J. Crooks, arrived at deepspaceworks, primed and ready for painting…

Prior to this the children of Glenfall Primary School and the adult students of Art Shape’s Fine Art courses spent up to 100 minutes creating their designs in response to the Centenary of The Racing Festival by expressing what Cheltenham Racecourse meant to them.

"100" - Community Horse Number 9

After a call for artists was put out to members of Cheltenham Open Studios, sculptor Beth Forrester and painter Jo Lucas joined forces with coordinator and artist Su Billington at deepspacestudios to faithfully reproduce all of the one hundred works submitted by the children and students.

Many early morning starts and late nights found the artists relishing in a project that has brought many different factions of our community together to execute a feast of celebration artworks into one triumphant piece.

3 weeks later “100” left the studio to be varnished ready for installation and can now be seen in Pittville Park between the playground and Pittville Pump Rooms. It is one of 10 horses blazing a trail through Cheltenham from Montpellier to the Racecourse between 1st August and 16th October 2011.
