deepspaceworks is now permanently closed as of 30th March 2024.
Thank you to everyone who has been involved over the last two decades.
This website remains simply as an archive of some of the things we got up to.

Portraits by Indy Cantillon

During the summer deepspacegallery hosted the exhibition ‘Away’, displaying paintings, drawings and illustrations by many of the deepspacestudio artists and associates.

Amongst the collection of high quality works were three extremely well received portraits, ‘Ray’, ‘Margaret’ & ‘Mike’ by Indy Cantillon.
This photograph hardly does them justice but does show how they were hung together.

As a result of seeing these incredibly well painted likenesses that tell you something about the character of the subjects and how the artist views them, the owner of deepspaceworks, Su, and her husband, Len, commissioned Indy for a portrait of their son, Sam.

And here is the result…

in which Indy has brilliantly captured “the very essence of Sam and the age in which he exists”.

Su and Len have been fortunate enough to discover Indy’s extraordinary talent and take advantage of it while his work is still affordable and are advising those who are thinking of commissioning a portrait or two to commission Indy Cantillon – before he is in greater demand and while he is still working from his provincial studio at deepspaceworks.

His prices for a portrait in oils on board start at a mere £450!

“I have been at deepspace just over a year now, the quiet hum of creativity has been essential to re-establishing my practice.
After a gap of 6 years ‘Away’ was my second exhibition of the year and from it I have gained a portrait commission.
I hope that this will be the first of many, where I will attempt to balance a technically realistic rendering within a soulful and contemporary framework.
My thanks to Su for the excellent curating of ‘Away’ and her continued support.”
